‘Marshals’ Exclusive Clip: Pete “Cal” Calvin Faces Decision on Medical Leave Successor

Pete “Cal” Calvin, played by Logan Marshall-Green, is grappling with the reality of his chemotherapy regimen and the impending need to select a temporary successor for his role as U.S. Marshal. In an exclusive clip from the upcoming episode of "Marshals," Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Harry Gifford visits Cal in his office to discuss the matter.

Gifford acknowledges Cal’s appearance, noting he “looks good,” but quickly pivots to the purpose of his visit: discussing Cal’s replacement during his medical leave. Cal expresses his belief that this is “a ways down the road,” but Gifford explains the necessity of ensuring the elite unit remains effective. “The president appointed me to make sure Montana stays safe. My elite unit stays elite, even without you,” Gifford tells Cal.

When asked for his choice, Cal suggests Phil Berenger from Tulsa, describing him as a “solid operator.” However, Gifford indicates a preference for an in-house candidate, proposing Deputy Andrea Cruz, portrayed by Ash Santos. Cal expresses surprise, noting that while Cruz is a capable Marshal, she may lack the leadership experience for the role. Gifford counters that Cruz is a “rising star” and that her appointment would demonstrate the talent pool within the unit to higher-ups in Washington D.C.

Cal emphasizes the need for a “steady hand” to lead, but the conversation is interrupted by Cruz herself, who enters Cal’s office. She reports that a recently apprehended individual is offering information on a top fugitive: a serial bomber named Rudy Carpenter. Both Cal and Gifford recognize the significance of this lead, with Gifford noting that Carpenter has been a long-sought target for Cal, referencing a past incident where Carpenter escaped.

Gifford suggests that Cruz’s intel presents Cal with an opportunity for redemption. The episode will explore whether Cal will pursue Carpenter and whether Gifford will appoint Cruz as his temporary successor against Cal's initial preference. An all-new episode of "Marshals" airs Sunday at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS.
