A cast member from the reality television show Married at First Sight UK has been arrested on suspicion of rape, following serious allegations aired in a Panorama documentary. The documentary, broadcast in May, detailed claims from three women. Two alleged they were raped during the filming of the popular E4 series, while a third woman reported being a victim of a non-consensual sex act.

Neither the arrested individual nor the alleged victims have been publicly identified. Lawyers representing CPL, the production company behind Married at First Sight UK, stated after the initial claims emerged that the company's welfare system is 'gold standard' and that they acted appropriately in all reported cases.

Channel 4's chief executive, Priya Dogra, initially refrained from apologizing but has since expressed deep regret. The broadcaster promptly removed all episodes of the show, which is among its most-watched programs. Security Minister Dan Jarvis described the situation as 'extremely concerning,' indicating a high likelihood of a police referral and investigation.

Media Minister Ian Murray met with Channel 4 leadership to discuss the ongoing scandal. Married at First Sight pairs singles who then enter into non-legally binding marriages after meeting for the first time. The show is described as a 'social experiment' and documents the couples' experiences, including honeymoons and cohabitation.

Following the revelations, the head of Ofcom, the UK's media regulator, indicated that the organization would review and potentially tighten guidance for reality television programming if necessary.
