Married At First Sight Stars Out of Travel Guides Amid Cast Shake-Up
Fan favorites Lucinda Light and Andrea Thompson will not return to the Channel Nine travel series in 2027, replaced by new celebrity faces.
Married At First Sight stars Lucinda Light and Andrea Thompson have been axed from the upcoming season of Channel Nine's Travel Guides, marking a significant cast shake-up for the network. The popular reality television duo, who garnered a devoted following after their appearances on the dating experiment, will not be featured in the 2027 lineup.
Light, 45, and Thompson, 51, joined forces for the 2026 season of Travel Guides, embarking on an adventure through Ireland. Despite their positive on-screen dynamic and individual popularity, producers have opted to introduce fresh talent rather than bring them back for another series. This decision reflects the network's strategy to refresh the program, which relies on genuine chemistry and spontaneous humor among its traveling cast members.
A production source indicated that while Light and Thompson brought a unique element to the show, their personalities and on-screen dynamic might not have been the ideal fit for the spontaneous nature of Travel Guides. "Being fan favourites on MAFS doesn't automatically mean you're the right fit for another show. They're two very different formats," the source told Daily Mail. The insider elaborated that Travel Guides thrives on "natural chemistry, spontaneous humour and people being able to laugh at themselves," requiring personalities unafraid to be uncomfortable and react in the moment.
Lucinda Light, known for her thoughtful observations and spiritual insights on Married At First Sight, and Andrea Thompson, appreciated for her warm personality, both won over viewers on the dating show. However, these qualities, while making them popular on a relationship-focused program, do not necessarily translate into the unpredictable comedy that defines Travel Guides. "Lucinda is television gold, there's absolutely no denying that. But she's got such a big personality, and when you put her alongside Andrea, the dynamic is very different to what viewers have come to expect," the insider added. The focus, at times, may have shifted too heavily to Light herself rather than the travel experience.
The shake-up follows reports that Channel Nine is becoming more selective in its casting for the family-friendly program. Producers are reportedly looking beyond recent seasons of Married At First Sight and The Block, seeking contestants who can deliver natural humor without relying on manufactured conflict. This approach has led to the return of Love Island favorites Callum Hole and Mitch Hibberd, along with country music couple Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley, who are all returning for another season.
Other new and returning cast members for the 2027 season include former The Block contestants Tom and Sarah-Jane Calleja, Olympic swimming sisters Cate and Bronte Campbell, and social media personalities Fletch and Lachie. Former contestants Eliza and Liberty Paschke, who appeared in the 2026 season, will also not be returning.
Reports suggest that producers considered contestants from previous seasons of MAFS and The Block, prioritizing those with established friendships and natural chemistry. This strategic shift aims to maintain the show's core appeal of authentic reactions and relatable travel experiences. The 2027 season is slated to visit 10 destinations, including Egypt, New Caledonia, and Santorini.
