Married At First Sight Production Under Police Investigation Over Alleged Groom Ambush

The upcoming season of the reality dating show Married At First Sight is reportedly facing a police investigation following allegations that producers shared private material involving a groom with his on-screen bride. Insiders claim that production staff have been interviewed by police and had their phones seized as part of the inquiry.

The allegations stem from a complaint reportedly lodged by a male participant who claims he was "ambushed" by Endemol Shine producers. According to TV Blackbox, these producers allegedly disclosed personal information concerning an ex-girlfriend to his bride. A separate source told Daily Mail that the ex-girlfriend had contacted the production company upon learning of the groom's casting, sending producers a private video in an attempt to "sabotage his appearance on the programme."

It remains unclear what specific material was allegedly shown to the bride, who displayed it, or what consent was obtained. An insider also claimed that producers are being represented by lawyers and that an executive may have departed the show, though this remains unverified and unlinked to the investigation.

McKnight reported that police visited Endemol Shine to conduct interviews, and that producers were supplied with legal counsel and had their phones seized. The groom has reportedly rejected settlement offers. While these accounts are based on sources, independent confirmation of every detail is pending.

In New South Wales, Australia, the intentional distribution of an intimate image without the depicted person's consent is a criminal offense, carrying a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment, a fine, or both. Consent to making a recording or sharing an image with one person does not automatically authorize its distribution to others.

This is not the first time the franchise has faced allegations involving private footage. In the 2022 season, participants Olivia Frazer shared an image associated with Domenica Calarco's OnlyFans account, leading to a confrontation. Calarco alleged the circulation was intended to harm her, while Frazer stated she did not act with malice. NSW Police investigated a complaint regarding that incident, which was separate from the current allegations.

Additionally, in February 2020, MAFS participant Natasha Spencer reportedly contacted police after an intimate video circulated online, and NSW Police confirmed an investigation into a complaint at that time.

Nine has confirmed that Married At First Sight will return for its 14th season in 2027. NSW Police have been contacted for comment.
