Mark Wright Deactivates Instagram Comments Amidst Hosepipe Ban Scrutiny
The television personality faced backlash over his lawn's condition during a regional drought, prompting him to limit engagement on his latest social media post.
Mark Wright has disabled comments on his most recent Instagram post, which showcased his notably verdant lawn. This action follows accusations that he may have disregarded a summer hosepipe ban. Wright, a former star of "The Only Way Is Essex" (TOWIE), posted a video promoting a robotic lawn mower at his £1.3 million mansion in Essex, a property he shares with actress Michelle Keegan and their daughter, Palma.
In August, Wright faced public criticism for the condition of his lawn. At the time, his water supplier, Essex and Suffolk Water, had imposed a hosepipe ban due to prolonged dry weather and declining water reserves across the region. Eight other water companies also implemented similar bans, legally restricting customers from using hosepipes for gardening or washing vehicles and property.
While there is no direct evidence that Wright and Keegan violated the ban, alternative methods such as using watering cans could have been employed. Exemptions for certain uses are also possible.
The Environment Agency had declared a drought affecting nearly three-quarters of England in August, including Essex.
In the promotional video, Wright is seen relaxing with a cup of tea while a robotic lawn mower operates on the grass of his five-bedroom home. He highlighted his expansive garden, complete with an outdoor swimming pool, and described his lawn as "perfect." However, the decision to turn off comments prevents users from sharing their reactions or opinions.
This social media activity follows a family holiday abroad with his 18-month-old daughter, Palma. Wright shared rare pictures of himself with Palma during the trip, including one in Calvin Klein speedos, which his sister Jess commented on. Other photos depicted Michelle and Palma together, and their daughter riding on Wright's shoulders. He captioned the post, "It was a special week making special memories."
Separately, Wright recently took Keegan on a romantic weekend trip to Paris. Keegan had expressed a long-standing desire to see Celine Dion perform in the city, a wish Wright fulfilled. Keegan has publicly shared her admiration for Dion, recounting childhood memories of listening to her music and a memorable concert experience in Las Vegas in 2019.
