Mark Sanchez Reaches Settlement in Civil Lawsuit Over Brawl with Truck Driver
Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has agreed to a tentative settlement in a civil lawsuit filed by a truck driver he allegedly assaulted in Indianapolis.

Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has reached a tentative agreement to settle a civil lawsuit stemming from an alleged assault on a 69-year-old truck driver in Indianapolis last year. The proposed deal was disclosed in court documents filed in the Southern District of Indiana on October 6, 2026.
Perry Tole, the truck driver, claimed he suffered permanent disfigurement from the incident. The lawsuit originated from an altercation on October 10, 2025, when Tole alleged that Sanchez body-slammed and beat him. Tole stated he then stabbed Sanchez multiple times in self-defense.
Security footage from the event showed a bloodied Sanchez, who authorities reported smelled of alcohol, clutching his wounds as he left the scene. Tole sustained severe injuries, including deep wounds to his cheek and jaw, and was photographed in a hospital bed wearing a neck brace.
Sanchez, a former college football star and NFL quarterback, faced multiple charges following the incident, including battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery resulting in bodily injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
Last month, Sanchez's legal team and Indiana state prosecutors had jointly requested that a trial date scheduled for September 8 be vacated to allow for a guilty plea and sentencing hearing. However, the specific criminal charges to which Sanchez intended to plead guilty were not immediately clear.
Attorneys for both Sanchez and Tole, along with Fox Corporation, Sanchez's employer at the time of the assault, were involved in the agreement in principle. Tole's attorneys are expected to file a motion to dismiss the case by January 8, 2027, pending the formal signing of the settlement. The terms of the settlement have not been publicly disclosed.
Previously, Sanchez's legal advisor expressed optimism about resolving the matter, stating that "constructive conversations" were underway and that there was "real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close." Tole's attorney also indicated that discussions had been productive and were on a "positive path toward an agreement."
