Mark Indelicato, ‘Ugly Betty’ Star, Marries Partner with Jean Smart Officiating
The actor, known for his role as Justin Suarez, tied the knot in a ceremony led by his ‘Hacks’ co-star.
Mark Indelicato, best known for his role as Justin Suarez in the ABC sitcom “Ugly Betty,” married his longtime partner David Watson on Saturday, October 10. The ceremony was officiated by legendary actress Jean Smart, Indelicato’s co-star in the HBO series “Hacks.”
Smart, an eight-time Emmy winner, presided over the outdoor ceremony where Indelicato, 32, and Watson exchanged vows. Many cast members and showrunners from “Hacks,” including Hannah Einbinder and Johnny Sibily, were in attendance. Sibily shared video clips from the event on social media, showing Smart pronouncing the couple husband and husband.
Indelicato and Watson, both wearing black suits with white dress shirts, later shared their first dance to Paul McCartney’s “Is It Okay If I Call You Mine.” Other notable guests included “Hacks” stars Megan Stalter, Paul W. Downs, and Poppy Liu, as well as showrunners Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky.
In “Hacks,” Smart portrayed comedian Deborah Vance, while Indelicato played her assistant Damien from 2021 to 2026. The series explored the dynamic between Vance and an aspiring comedy writer.
Indelicato first gained recognition as a child actor on “Ugly Betty,” which aired from 2006 to 2010. His character, Justin Suarez, the nephew of Betty, was noted for being one of the youngest openly gay characters on television at the time. Critics and pundits have often cited Justin Suarez as one of the best LGBTQIA+ TV characters.
The role of Justin was partly based on the experiences of series creator Silvio Horta as a gay teenager raised by a single mother. While Justin's sexuality was not fully explored during the show's run due to his age, it was confirmed in the final season that he was gay.
After “Ugly Betty” concluded, Indelicato stepped back from acting to pursue higher education, enrolling at New York University to study International Relations and Gender Studies. He briefly returned to acting in the film “White Bird in a Blizzard” and the 2016 Freeform series “Dead of Summer.”
Following a four-year hiatus, Indelicato returned to acting in 2020 with an appearance in “Melange,” before taking on the role of Damien in “Hacks.” Most recently, he played Jorge Diaz Jr. in the Amazon Prime Video series “With Love.”
