Mark Hamill Unrecognizable in Surprise 'Carrie' Series Cameo
'Star Wars' actor Mark Hamill made a surprise cameo as a fortune teller in the Amazon Prime Video series 'Carrie,' a role that saw him sporting a mustache and beard.
Mark Hamill, widely recognized for his iconic role as Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" saga, has made a surprising and nearly unrecognizable appearance in the latest "Carrie" series. The actor features as a fortune teller in the sixth episode of the Amazon Prime Video show, a project helmed by creator Mike Flanagan.
Hamill's appearance was kept under wraps, with the actor himself reportedly insisting on secrecy. "He was so excited to just come out for half a day," Mike Flanagan told People magazine. "His whole thing was just like, ‘Just don’t tell anyone I’m doing that.’ He just wanted to be part of it."
Flanagan, who has collaborated with Hamill on previous projects including "The Fall of the House of Usher" and the upcoming film "Life of Chuck," expressed his enjoyment of working with the veteran actor. "It was so fun to see the icon just chewing that set and creating this really fun character. It was a blast," Flanagan said.
The "Carrie" series is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1974 novel. The TV version follows Carrie, portrayed by Summer Howell, as she navigates her father's death, her controlling mother, and the aftermath of a bullying incident at high school, all while dealing with telekinetic powers. The series also features Margaret White, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, and Josie Totah.
According to Flanagan, this adaptation offers a different perspective compared to previous versions, including the well-known 1976 film. "This isn’t the Carrie White we’ve seen before. It’s not the prom we’ve seen before," he explained, noting the series had King's enthusiastic support.
