Mark Consuelos Undergoes 'Major' Toe Surgery

Mark Consuelos has undergone "major" toe surgery after delaying the procedure for a year. The co-host of "Live with Kelly and Mark" announced on Friday's show that he was set to have the surgery following their broadcast.

"Today’s the day," Consuelos, 55, told his wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa. "I’ve been putting off this toe surgery for about a year."

Ripa confirmed she would accompany him, joking about capturing him recovering from anesthesia. "I’m not resisting the opportunity to video … capture you coming out of your propofol haze," she said. Consuelos added that Ripa has video from his previous foot surgery.

Consuelos admitted he was feeling "a little loopy" because he had not eaten since the previous day, a detail Ripa found unusual. "It’s dumb. … I just want to eat. I could be convinced to eat at any moment," Consuelos remarked.

He then read from a list about caring for a loved one after surgery, which included taking over responsibilities and being present during recovery. Consuelos noted that he typically walks their dog, Lena, on weekends and that Ripa would now assume that duty.

Ripa outlined her own recovery plan, which involved reading, watching shows on Netflix, journaling, and crafting. Consuelos countered that he planned to "bedazzle my foot."

Consuelos joked that the surgery was to help him "play golf better," but clarified that it was due to arthritis and pain. Ripa had previously undergone gum graft surgery, an absence from "Live" that Consuelos had explained was painful but necessary.
