Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has sharply criticized War Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing him of exhibiting "bloodlust" following the Pentagon chief's remarks on fallen U.S. service members. The exchange unfolded on social media after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the deaths of two American troops in Jordan and the finding of unidentified remains.
Hegseth posted on X, "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve," in response to a CENTCOM announcement detailing an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack against U.S. forces in Jordan on July 17, which also resulted in one service member missing.
Greene shared Hegseth's post, writing, "Sacrifice?? What the f--- are you talking about?? They did not willingly sacrifice themselves. They were killed because of the war you, Trump, and the admin, are waging on behalf of a FOREIGN COUNTRY, Israel. You mean their deaths fuel your bloodlust for a senseless war."
Greene also expressed her condolences for the families of the fallen soldiers and the missing service member, adding in a separate post, "This should not be happening. President Trump needs to bring our troops home and stop this senseless America LAST war!!!"
CENTCOM provided an update on Sunday, confirming that after a search, unidentified remains were found at the site in Jordan where the attack occurred on July 17. An examination process to verify the remains is underway.
Separately, CENTCOM reported that a U.S. service member was killed in action on July 18 in northern Iraq during the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone. Another service member sustained a minor injury and is receiving medical treatment.
Greene, who departed Congress in early January, has previously called for the withdrawal of U.S. military presence from the Middle East. Her public discourse with Hegseth highlights ongoing divisions regarding U.S. foreign policy and military engagements in the region.
