Actress Mariska Hargitay, known for her long-standing role in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," is set to host the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. Hargitay, who has earned eight Emmy nominations for her portrayal of Detective Olivia Benson, previously won an Emmy for lead actress in a drama series in 2006.
"Law & Order: SVU," one of television's longest-running dramas, has maintained popularity with audiences, many of whom have discovered the series through streaming services. The show is approaching its 600th episode and is slated to air its 28th season this autumn.
Hargitay also recently received two prizes at the Creative Arts Emmys for her documentary "My Mom Jayne," which explores the life of her mother, actress Jayne Mansfield. "Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career," Hargitay stated. "It's my great honor to host the 78th Emmy Awards and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytellers."
The Emmy Awards ceremony will honor achievements in television, with nominees including actors Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, stars of the series "Beef."
