Mariska Hargitay enlisted her trusted hairstylist, Chris McMillan, to craft her bob for a recent wedding celebration hosted by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The inspiration for the style reportedly came from a photo Hargitay sent McMillan, taken during a wedding dress fitting.
"Her hair had such an effortless ease to it. It was side-parted, tucked behind her ears and looked perfect with the dress," McMillan told Page Six Style. He aimed for a look that was both elegant and practical, especially given the high temperatures in New York City on the day of the event.
To combat the heat and ensure the style's longevity, McMillan utilized the Glassy Smooth Blow Dry Spray, a product designed to offer frizz protection and a sleek finish. He applied it liberally to the front sections of Hargitay's bob before blow-drying, using his fingers to lift the roots and create volume. A T3 flat iron was then used to shape soft waves.
McMillan also employed The Major Hairspray to shield Hargitay's hair from heat damage and maintain the look. For the final touch, he used The Styling Balm to achieve his signature "lived-in, sexy, day-old hair" aesthetic.
Hargitay's bob was initially inspired by a wig created by hairstylist Adir Abergel for her Broadway show "Every Brilliant Thing." McMillan has since taken over the maintenance of her shorter style, noting his enjoyment of working with the actress. He previously created iconic looks for celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Leslie Bibb.
McMillan offered advice for styling bobs, suggesting that when the hair is wet, it should be combed and tucked behind the ears. As it dries to about halfway, he recommends blow-drying only the root area while allowing the ends to air dry naturally. This technique, he explained, helps prevent bobs from appearing "matronly."
