Actor and television host Mario Lopez has drawn significant social media attention and criticism for a recently shared artificial intelligence-generated video featuring his niece, Kalia Wong. The 15-second clip, posted on X, depicts Wong, the 20-year-old daughter of Lopez's sister, eating two hot dogs at an LA Dodgers game.
The video shows Wong consuming the hot dogs with a mess of mustard and relish on her face, while an AI-generated version of Lopez, 52, remarks, "I can't take her anywhere!" Lopez also shared the remark as a caption for the video.
The clip, created by Grok Imagine, has garnered nearly 5 million views. A significant portion of reactions on X interpreted the video as suggestive, with many users expressing discomfort due to the familial relationship between Lopez and Wong. Huffington Post Correspondent Yashar Ali commented that the video was "creepy" given the subject matter. Other users called the video "gross and disappointing," with one suggesting it indicated Lopez had become "detached from actual reality."
Both Lopez and Wong also shared non-AI generated content from the game. Wong, who is signed with Clear Talent Group as a model, posted a photo of what appeared to be a retrieved foul ball. Lopez shared a video of himself and Wong enjoying the game, alongside a caption that read, "Sunshine, baseball, family… doesn’t get much better than that. Let’s keep this postseason momentum rolling…" He also posted a remark about the game's temperature, "Hotter than a Dodger Dog on the grill out here, but the Dodgers might be even hotter."
Lopez has hosted the entertainment news program Access Hollywood since 2019. The show is scheduled to conclude in September after 30 years on air. Lopez also hosts a podcast distributed by iHeartRadio. He is married to Broadway dancer Courtney Mazza.
