A performance of the U.S. national anthem by the Grammy-nominated Mariachi Herencia de Mexico ahead of the Chicago Bears' Monday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles has ignited a debate among NFL fans. The live rendition, broadcast on ESPN from Soldier Field, featured the group's distinctive mariachi style, leading to a split reaction from viewers watching at home.

Some fans expressed displeasure on social media, questioning the choice of musical arrangement for the anthem. Comments included sentiments like, "Why they got a mariachi band playing on my TV, f***s going on?" and "Why in the F is a garbage mariachi band playing the national anthem." Another viewer stated, "Maybe it’s just me… but hearing the American national anthem played mariachi-style on Monday Night Football feels weird. Some things don’t need reinventing."

Conversely, others embraced the performance, with some viewers and commentators finding it impactful. ESPN playcaller Joe Buck reportedly described the rendition as giving him "chills."
