Maria Bartiromo is leaving Fox News, the company announced Thursday, concluding a tenure of more than 12 years with the network. The company issued a statement thanking Bartiromo for her work and wishing her well in her next chapter, without elaborating on the reasons for her departure.
Bartiromo hosted "Mornings with Maria" on the Fox Business Network, which aired Thursday morning prior to the announcement. The show will be renamed "Morning with Fox Business." Her Sunday program, "Sunday Morning Futures," will be hosted by Jason Chaffetz, with a new permanent host to be named later. Bartiromo's Friday show, "Maria Bartiromo's Wall Street," will be rebranded as "FBN's Wall Street."
Career Highlights
Bartiromo began her career at CNBC in the mid-1990s, where she became known for being the first reporter to broadcast live from the New York Stock Exchange floor. She hosted several programs at CNBC, including "Closing Bell" and "On the Money with Maria Bartiromo."
She joined Fox News in 2014, continuing to cover economic and public policy topics on her daily show and appearing on other network news programs. Her profile within the network grew significantly after she began interviewing Donald Trump ahead of the 2016 presidential election. These interviews, often characterized by a lack of challenging questions and amplified Trump's unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, drew public scrutiny.
One notable instance occurred in 2020 when Trump granted Bartiromo his first interview after losing the election to Joe Biden. During the 45-minute interview, Trump repeated false claims of a rigged and fraudulent election. Bartiromo asked few questions and at times appeared to agree with his assertions, stating, "This is disgusting! And we cannot allow America’s election to be corrupted. We cannot."
In 2018, Brian Jones, then president of Fox Business, defended Bartiromo's interviews with Trump, calling a "wide-ranging interview" newsworthy and stating the network was "proud of her hard work and continued success."
Bartiromo's departure has fueled speculation about her future roles, with some rumors suggesting she could be a candidate for White House press secretary. Vice President JD Vance commented on the rumors, stating he did not know if Bartiromo would take the role but expressed admiration for her, calling her "an amazing person, amazing talent" and a "very, very dear friend."
