Margot Robbie Officially Adopts Husband's Last Name in Business Filings
The actress is now listed as Margot Ackerley in official documents for her production company, nearly a decade after her marriage to Tom Ackerley.
Margot Robbie has formally changed her name to Margot Ackerley in corporate filings for her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. The change was noted in documents submitted to Companies House, the United Kingdom's business registry, on Monday.
Robbie, 36, had previously used her maiden name, Robbie, since she was appointed director of LuckyChap Entertainment in May 2015. The filing officially updates her name from Margot Elise Robbie to Margot Elise Ackerley.
She co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 with her husband, Tom Ackerley, along with friends Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerrback. The company has produced notable films such as "I, Tonya," "Birds of Prey," "Barbie," and "Saltburn."
Robbie and Ackerley, a film producer from England, married in December 2016 in Byron Bay, Australia, after dating for two years. The couple met in 2013 on the set of the World War II drama "Suite Française," where Robbie was an actress and Ackerley worked as an assistant director. They initially developed a friendship that evolved into a romantic relationship.
While Robbie is generally private about her personal life, she has spoken about her relationship with Ackerley. In a 2016 interview with Vogue, she described their beginnings, stating she never expected to fall in love with him. "I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me," she said. "We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him.’ And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.’"
In 2024, Ackerley shared in an interview with The Times of London that their primary domestic dispute is over the superiority of Tim Tams versus Penguin biscuits. He also commented on their work-life integration, stating, "It’s seamless. We don’t have a toggle on, toggle off. It’s all become one thing."
LuckyChap Entertainment has several upcoming projects, including a live-action adaptation of "The Sims," an "Ocean’s Eleven" prequel directed by Bradley Cooper, and a "Sleepy Hollow" adaptation starring Sydney Sweeney.
