Margaux West Chelsea Boot Named Best Commuter Shoe in NYC

In the bustling urban landscape of New York City, where commutes can span miles and terrains, the Margaux West Chelsea Boot has been crowned the ultimate commuter shoe. This designation comes after a comprehensive test of 15 different footwear options, conducted by shopping writers and editors.

The Margaux West Chelsea Boot, priced at $445, emerged as the standout winner in the inaugural "Made it Here Awards." Its performance was particularly notable during a demanding test that involved walking from Columbus Circle to Battery Park, a journey of nearly six miles. Commerce Reporter Miska Salemann, who undertook this extensive walk, reported no slipping and minimal discomfort, even after subjecting the boots to the varied challenges of New York City sidewalks.

Design and Durability

The West Chelsea Boot is praised for its strong style-to-comfort ratio, blending a rugged build suitable for city wear with a fashionable aesthetic. Salemann described the boots as having "the ruggedness and support you’d expect from a substantial boot while still looking stylish enough for everyday city wear." The boots feature a durable lug sole and, even in suede options, offer a degree of water resistance. They are available in chocolate brown suede, tan, cedar, and a black leather finish. The full size range extends from 3.5 to 14.

Performance and Value

Despite their premium price point, the boots are positioned as a lasting wardrobe staple. The testing process evaluated shoes based on comfort over extended wear, performance on subway stairs, ability to handle a quick sprint for a train, resistance to rain and puddles, traction on various urban surfaces, and the crucial balance between style and practicality for city living.

The New York Post's "Made it Here Awards" aims to identify products that meet the demands of daily life, with a focus on rigorous, hands-on testing and expert analysis.
