Marcus Davenport Released by Bears, Retires at 30
Defensive end requests release from practice squad after playing just 12 snaps in recent game.
Marcus Davenport has been released from the Chicago Bears' practice squad at his own request, a move that comes after he played only 12 defensive snaps against the New York Jets on Sunday. Davenport, 30, has opted to retire from the NFL.
The Bears signed Davenport in the offseason, but he was not part of the team's active 53-man roster. He made his debut for Chicago in the team's 23-12 victory over the Jets.
During his brief appearance against the Jets, Davenport recorded one tackle and one pressure. Pro Football Focus assigned him an overall grade of 70.8 for the game, with scores of 66.3 in run defense and 69.9 in tackling.
Davenport was originally a first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 2018 NFL Draft. His tenure with the Bears reunited him with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who previously held the same role with the Saints.
Since 2023, Davenport has played in 15 games, accumulating 24 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
