A Los Angeles County court hearing involving former NFL player Marcellus Wiley and his estranged wife, Annemarie Wiley, grew heated Friday morning over the whereabouts of a handgun. The couple appeared via video call as Annemarie Wiley sought a permanent domestic violence restraining order against her husband, a request filed days after Marcellus Wiley was arrested in Florida for alleged assault.
During the proceedings, it emerged that Marcellus Wiley was required by the temporary restraining order to surrender a 9 mm Glock. However, he stated that the firearm was at their Encino home, which he was compelled to vacate due to the order, making it inaccessible for him to hand over. Annemarie Wiley, who had joined the call from the side of a highway with children in the car, was instructed by the judge to disconnect, and her attorneys spoke on her behalf.
Attorneys for both sides debated the issue for several minutes before agreeing that Annemarie Wiley would turn the firearm over to authorities the following week. The larger matter of the permanent restraining order was postponed to a later date after Marcellus Wiley requested a continuance, which Annemarie Wiley's legal team did not oppose.
Marcellus Wiley had also hoped to modify the existing order to allow for more frequent contact with their three children, but this request was also tabled.
The couple, married for over a decade, has reportedly been separated since July 4. Annemarie Wiley's filing for divorce and the request for the domestic violence restraining order followed an incident in an Orlando hotel room where she alleged Marcellus Wiley poked her and threatened her life. She further claimed in court documents that Wiley had raped and repeatedly abused her during their marriage.
Marcellus Wiley has vehemently denied these allegations. In a statement released on July 7, he asserted that Annemarie Wiley was the one who had committed wrongdoing and expressed a desire to resolve the family's issues privately. He stated his intention to address the allegations through the legal process and emphasized his focus on his children, integrity, and the truth.
"I never wanted my family’s issues and struggles to become public for any reason, including divorce leverage," Wiley said in his statement. "But I unfortunately knew this day was inevitable. I was willing to endure anything—even hell itself—if it meant being with my children every single day. I am their hero, and now I am fighting to make sure the positive and real image they know of me is the one that endures."
He added, "I am prepared to address these allegations and related matters through the legal process and with evidence. My focus remains on my children, my integrity, and the truth. Thanks for your understanding."
