Detectives have launched a manhunt for a man following a sexual assault in North London. Police are appealing for the public's help to identify the suspect after a woman in her early 20s was attacked in the early hours of Friday, July 4.

The alleged assault occurred in the Essex Road and Northchurch Road area of Islington. According to police, a man approached the woman as she walked alone, harassed her, and then dragged her into a building where the assault took place.

Following the incident, the man fled the scene, reportedly along Essex Road towards Angel. A woman who intervened to help the victim has been spoken to by officers, but police are still seeking to identify a man who also assisted.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley, leading the investigation, stated that the attack is being treated as an attempted rape. "This was a deeply distressing attack on a young woman, which we are investigating as an attempted rape," Ridley said. "My officers have been working tirelessly to identify the suspect as quickly as possible."

Investigators have released a description of the suspect: he is of average build, approximately 5ft 8in to 6ft tall, with short or shaved hair. On the day of the attack, he was wearing a tie-dye T-shirt with blue and pink streaks.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage showing a man fleeing the area and are urging anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. They are also seeking to speak with the male bystander who provided assistance.

"We take reports of this nature incredibly seriously and are committed to supporting victims and putting those responsible before the courts," Ridley added. "Please get in touch with us if you recognise the man or if you have CCTV or dashcam footage that could help our investigation. No piece of information is too small, and what may seem insignificant to you could prove vital to our investigation."

The man who assisted the victim is described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s, with an athletic build and curly, ash-blonde hair. "I would like to make a direct appeal to him to get in touch with officers. He may have crucial information to support the investigation and would ask that you contact us as soon as possible," Ridley urged.

The woman is currently being supported by specialist officers. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Metropolitan Police via their website or by calling 101, quoting reference CAD 1303/4JUL26.
