Authorities in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, are searching for Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, who has been identified as a person of interest in a series of stabbing incidents that left four people dead and a child critically wounded. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Solet as a person of interest on Tuesday.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the 200 block of Ashland Drive in Houma following a report of a critically injured child. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the child, who sustained what officials described as "extremely significant" injuries and was airlifted to an out-of-area hospital. The child remains in critical but stable condition.
Discovery of Additional Victims
While searching the area surrounding the initial incident, deputies discovered four deceased individuals inside nearby homes. The identities of the victims and their relationship to each other, the injured child, or Solet have not yet been released by authorities. Investigators have not specified whether the victims were attacked in a single residence or multiple locations, nor have they disclosed a motive for the violence.
Solet has not been formally charged in connection with the recent deaths, and authorities stressed that being named a person of interest does not equate to an accusation of a crime. Law enforcement officials believe Solet may still be in the Terrebonne Parish area but are not ruling out other possibilities.
"We’re using every investigative tool that we have," Lt. Blake Tabor of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital. "Our hope is that we plan to get him in custody very quickly."
Prior Violent Allegations
This is not the first time Solet has been involved with law enforcement regarding violent allegations. In December 2019, Solet was arrested and accused of repeatedly stabbing a woman and leaving her locked inside a motel room in Houma. Responding officers at the Red Carpet Inn found the 59-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds.
Witnesses reported hearing calls for help from the room. Investigators at the time alleged that Solet, then 40, had been arguing with the woman before the assault. Police said he then fled the scene, locking the motel room door behind him. Solet was apprehended approximately 18 hours later and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Additionally, Terrebonne Parish detectives had obtained a warrant for Solet's arrest in January 2019 in connection with the killing of Kemple Paul Scott Lovell. The final dispositions of both 2019 cases were not immediately available.
Tabor acknowledged the public's concern regarding Solet's prior involvement with the justice system. "I can’t tell you. Certainly, that’s the hot question, right? Why is he out?" Tabor said. "We’re probably just as stunned as everyone else is." He added that questions remain about how Solet's previous cases were handled and that the sheriff's office is working to understand the circumstances surrounding his release.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Solet's whereabouts to contact the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-876-2500.
