Dogs and their owners took to the streets of Manhattan for the 36th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade on Saturday, October 17. The event, which originated as a fundraiser for the Tompkins Square Park dog run, has evolved into one of the world's largest celebrations of dogs in costume.

The parade route led participants down Avenue B to Tompkins Square Park, where a costume competition was held. Dogs were adorned in an array of elaborate outfits, transforming into characters such as Batman, dinosaurs, and even food items.

First place in the costume contest was awarded to Snickers, a Shih Tzu, who was dressed as basketball player Jalen Brunson, complete with a miniature basketball court. His owner, Debbie, complemented the costume by wearing a New York Knicks t-shirt.

Other notable costumes included a group dressed as characters from "Despicable Me," a Dachshund with a Wimbledon theme, and a pair dressed as Batwoman and Batman. One Corgi was creatively costumed as a New York City trash bin with a pigeon on top, while another Dachshund, nicknamed "Wimbeldon the Weenie," sported rackets and tennis balls.

The parade also featured dogs dressed as hotdogs, a "Little Shop of Horrors" plant, a mock graveyard, and a pug duo in matching tiaras. One dog was presented as a living piece of art, framed as a museum exhibit.

The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is organized by the nonprofit New York Dog Parade and continues to be a popular fixture in the city's autumn festivities.
