A 49-year-old man with more than 25 arrests on his record has been charged with assault and child endangerment for an alleged unprovoked attack on a baby in a stroller in Manhattan. Authorities identified the suspect as Marc Okon.
Police said the incident occurred Saturday morning near Bryant Park. According to reports, Okon approached a 39-year-old mother as she was pushing her infant daughter in a stroller. Authorities claim Okon threw a cellphone, striking the baby in her arm. He then allegedly picked up the phone and attempted to throw it at the mother, missing her. Okon was arrested at the scene.
Okon's criminal history includes arrests for offenses such as forcible touching, public lewdness, menacing, grand larceny, criminal mischief, and petty larceny, according to police. He had been arrested at least three times in 2025, including incidents in July and the preceding month, officials said.
This incident follows other recent attacks in the city involving individuals experiencing homelessness. In a separate event, five people were reportedly slashed at Penn Station during a random attack. Additionally, in May, a homeless man with 22 prior arrests was accused of beating another homeless individual to death in the Bronx after being awakened from a nap.
