Manchester United Muslim Supporters' Club Calls for Ratcliffe to Resign Amid Immigration Comments

The Manchester United Muslim Supporters' Club (MUMSC) has declared a vote of no confidence in Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club's ownership, citing his recent comments on immigration and the team's underperformance this season.

Ratcliffe, a co-owner of Manchester United, recently stated in a BBC interview that the United Kingdom is "on the slide" and attributed this decline, in part, to immigration. He also commented on the country's "benefits problem," asserting that no one is "tough enough" to address these issues. These remarks have drawn sharp criticism from the MUMSC, which represents a diverse fan base.

In a detailed statement, the MUMSC emphasized the importance of diversity within the club, stating, "Our players, staff, stewards, security teams and supporters come from different countries, cultures, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds. Manchester United would not be Manchester United without them."

The fan group expressed deep disappointment with Ratcliffe's comments, noting that this is not the first time he has made controversial remarks on the subject. "Earlier this year, MUMSC publicly challenged Sir Jim Ratcliffe after his comments that the UK had been 'colonised by immigrants'. We condemned those comments then. He subsequently apologised for his choice of language," the statement read. "We hoped a lesson had been learned. Clearly, it has not."

The MUMSC also pointed out what they see as hypocrisy in Ratcliffe's stance, referencing the UK government's commitment of public money towards an INEOS operation while Ratcliffe himself has moved his tax residence to Monaco. "If state support is acceptable when it benefits your own business interests, it is difficult to then lecture ordinary people about their reliance upon the state," the statement argued.

The club's performance has also contributed to the fan unrest. Manchester United has been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and is currently in the bottom half of the Premier League standings with only one win from their first four matches. The ownership's handling of the transfer window has also been criticized.

The MUMSC's statement concluded with a call for significant change: "After years of decline, broken promises and repeated failure, Manchester United Muslim Supporters' Club has lost confidence in the current ownership structure of Manchester United Football Club. Enough is enough. It is time for change. The Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe must go."
