Mohammad Bashir, 31, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 17 years for preparing an act of terrorism. Bashir was convicted of planning a separate attack on a military base with Jihad Al-Shamie, the individual who carried out the Heaton Park Synagogue attack in October 2025, resulting in the deaths of two Jewish men.

Bashir drove Al-Shamie on a 10-hour round trip to conduct reconnaissance at the UK's Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire, on August 14, 2025. Weeks after this excursion, Al-Shamie was killed by police during the synagogue attack.

Counter-terrorism police discovered Bashir's involvement after reviewing his electronic devices following the synagogue incident. Investigations revealed that Bashir and Al-Shamie shared extremist views and had communicated about preparing for "war." Greater Manchester Police reported that the pair also frequently exchanged antisemitic messages on WhatsApp.
