Manchester City Faces Injury Concerns After Ipswich Win
Five players, including Erling Haaland, sustained issues in the final moments of their Premier League victory.
Manchester City experienced five injury scares during the closing stages of their recent Premier League victory over Ipswich Town, a match that extended their perfect start to the season. Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic, Erling Haaland, Nico O'Reilly, and Antoine Semenyo all reported various problems.
Manager Enzo Maresca indicated that Semenyo's injury is the most concerning, while O'Reilly is dealing with a recurring back issue. Haaland appeared to limp off the field after taking a knock to the foot, though Maresca stated the striker reported feeling "OK" and expressed hope that the injury is not serious.
The club will now await further assessment of the players before their upcoming Champions League fixture against AEK Athens and a subsequent league match against Aston Villa.
Maresca acknowledged the demanding week for his squad, which included impressive performances against Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain prior to the Ipswich game. He expressed that his tenure at the club has exceeded expectations and believes recent club developments have unified the team and supporters.
"I didn't expect to win seven out of seven," Maresca commented. "We are working well, working good. This is the main thing. It was very good."
Phil Foden, who scored in the match, stated that the team remains focused on their performance and is not affected by external commentary. "We just try to not listen to anything. The noise going around, we try to just stick to our football, take it game by game, and I think you can see that it's not affecting us one bit."
Foden also noted the positive atmosphere at the stadium, which saw a record attendance of over 60,000. "The atmosphere was class. I could feel the presence of the fans, pushing us on every single way."
Maresca credited the players for their resilience and focus, emphasizing their improvement day by day. "What makes me very happy was day by day with the players, the way I see them improving. We were creating chances, scoring goals. We are doing well. That's the most important thing."
