A man with a documented history of psychiatric illness and self-harm has been charged with the murder of his partner in Melbourne, Australia. Jorden Turney, 32, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday, facing a charge of murdering Brooke Timmins, 29.
Emergency services were called to a property on Generation Drive in Clyde North, a southeastern suburb of Melbourne, around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Ms. Timmins was found critically injured and transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Neighbours reported that Ms. Timmins' two children may have been inside the home at the time of the alleged incident.
Mr. Turney made no application for bail and has been remanded in custody. The court was informed that he requires medical attention from a prison nurse due to his long-standing mental health issues. Prosecutors requested a 12-week delay in proceedings until October 19, citing the need to complete phone analysis and obtain medical reports.
Ms. Timmins has been remembered by her family as a devoted mother, a loving daughter and sister, and a dedicated basketball coach. Her family stated that her children were her world and that she had a passion for the sport, where she encouraged and supported those she coached. They expressed that she was kind, caring, and deeply loved, with her whole life ahead of her.
Reports indicate that Mr. Turney and Ms. Timmins had moved into the Generation Drive home approximately one year ago. Social media posts showed Ms. Timmins had previously posted affectionate tributes to Mr. Turney. Her family has requested that she be remembered for the person she was—a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend—rather than for her death.
