Man with Autism Found Dead in Queens; Mother Investigated After Highway Jump
Police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man with autism in Queens, with his mother, who jumped from an expressway, also a focus.
An adult man with autism was found dead in his Queens home on Wednesday, prompting a police investigation that includes his mother, who was discovered after jumping from the Van Wyck Expressway, according to law enforcement sources.
Bryan Wong, 25, was discovered unconscious around 8 a.m. inside an apartment on 59th Street near Laurel Hill Boulevard in Woodside. He had multiple slash wounds to his wrists and neck, authorities said.
His father called 911 after finding him on a pull-out couch. EMS pronounced Wong dead at the scene. Sources indicated that Wong may have been nonverbal. Three knives were found at the residence: one in the living room and two in the bathroom.
Approximately four hours prior to the discovery of Wong, his mother was found lying in the street under the Van Wyck Expressway on Harper Street in Corona. She had sustained a fractured pelvis and femur and was hospitalized in stable condition, police reported.
A driver found her disabled gray Hyundai on the north side of the expressway. Investigators also discovered a note left by the mother concerning her son and his financial information.
While Wong's official cause of death is under investigation, sources suggest authorities are treating the case as a murder and attempted suicide.
