Manchester United will face Brighton in the third round of the Carabao Cup, a match marked by significant squad alterations under manager Michael Carrick. The team news ahead of the fixture revealed that young prospect Shea Lacey will be handed his first start, a decision that comes just a day after the news of fellow young player JJ Gabriel's potential departure from the club.

This lineup change signals Carrick's continued commitment to integrating emerging talent into the first team, even amidst the uncertainty surrounding Gabriel's future. Karl Darlow is also set to make his debut in goal for Manchester United, having joined from Leeds United in the summer.

Brighton, managed by Fabian Hurzeler, has also made substantial changes to their squad for the cup tie. Six players have been rotated out from the team that recently secured a decisive victory over Coventry in the Premier League. Only Luka Vuskovic, Olivier Boscagli, Pascal Gross, Malick Yalcouye, and Charampalos Kostoulas have retained their places in the starting lineup.

The Carabao Cup third round features several other matches tonight, including Everton vs. Wolves, Fleetwood Town vs. Sheffield United, and Coventry City vs. Aston Villa. Following the Manchester United vs. Brighton game, the draw for the fourth round of the competition is scheduled to take place.
