A Kansas City man was rescued by firefighters on Tuesday after being trapped in a portable toilet for eight hours. The man had reportedly crawled into the porta-potty's waste tank to retrieve a Mountain Dew bottle he had dropped the previous evening.
Crews from Patriot Portable Restrooms, the company that supplied the portable toilets for a World Cup event, were conducting routine checks when they discovered the man. According to Chip Counterman, a partner at Patriot Portable Restrooms, a worker noticed one unit was locked and the occupant refused to leave after a warning.
A Kansas City police officer was flagged down to assist. When the officer and a company worker opened the porta-potty door, they found it empty. The man then emerged from the toilet bowl, stating he was unable to reach the door and escape.
Firefighters were called to the scene and used saws to cut the man out of the plastic tank. He was subsequently hosed down by emergency personnel. The incident reportedly occurred at a World Cup event.
