Man to Remarry Ex-Wife Who Severed His Genitals After Affair Discovery
A Brazilian couple plans a second wedding despite a 2023 incident where the wife confessed to mutilating her husband.
A man in Brazil is set to remarry the ex-wife who severed his genitals with a razor after discovering his affair, the couple has revealed.
Daiane dos Santos Farias confessed to the attack in December 2023, stating she acted out of revenge after learning her husband, Gilberto Nogueira de Oliveira, had slept with her 15-year-old niece. She reported flushing the severed organ down the toilet to prevent it from being reattached.
Farias pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm in May 2024 and was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison. She was released on parole in November, and the couple reunited shortly thereafter. They share one daughter.
According to Brazilian outlet O Globo, Gilberto was awarded approximately $4,000 for moral damages after suing the Santa Casa Misericórdia de Atibaia hospital for allegedly leaking photos of his injury. He reportedly plans to use the funds to help finance a second wedding to Farias and a prosthetic penis.
Farias, a professional cook, reportedly tied her husband's hands with her underwear before carrying out the assault, having led him to believe they were about to engage in sexual activity. Gilberto, a gas station attendant and part-time taxi driver, had previously attempted to raise funds for a prosthetic penis through an online campaign but was unsuccessful.
At the time of her sentencing, Farias's lawyer stated she had acted under "violent emotion." Gilberto had previously defended his wife, blaming his own infidelity for provoking the attack and stating, "Daiane is a wonderful, loving woman who loves me."
He added, "She is a person who will have a negative impact on my life forever. But as I say all the time, I have faith, first and foremost, in God, and nothing happens in life without God's permission.
As to whether I forgive her, the truth is God is the one who has to forgive, but, yes, for my part, she is forgiven."
In September 2024, Gilberto was granted permission to visit Farias in prison. A judge, however, prohibited intimate relations between them due to concerns that Gilberto might pose a danger to Farias. Gilberto reportedly wrote a letter to Farias stating, "My love for you, Daiane, is greater than anything. It goes beyond the infinite. Not even the Justice of men can understand."
