A 44-year-old man miraculously survived a leap from the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday afternoon after scaling the north tower, erecting multiple flags, and shedding his clothing. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in front of onlookers.
The man ascended the Manhattan side of the iconic span and affixed flags before removing his attire. The NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit attempted to de-escalate the situation and persuade him to come down, but he ultimately jumped into the East River.
Harbor Unit officers quickly rescued the individual from the water. He was transported to NYC Health+Hospitals Bellevue and listed in stable condition. Authorities have not yet disclosed the content of the flags or the man's identity, as he was found without identification.
