James Brewington Jr., 61, surrendered to authorities last Thursday, approximately eight months after he allegedly caused a fatal head-on collision that killed Dustin McLeod and severely injured McLeod's wife and young daughter. Brewington's mugshot, taken upon his surrender, showed him sticking out his tongue.

The incident occurred in November 2025 when Brewington was reportedly driving southbound on Bobel Lane. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, he attempted to pass a vehicle making a right turn, swerved into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a Jeep Renegade. Inside the Jeep were Dustin McLeod, 41, his wife Ashley, and their 8-year-old daughter, Dakota. The family was on their way to set up Christmas lights for a relative.

Dustin McLeod was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Ashley and Dakota McLeod sustained serious injuries and underwent extensive recovery periods. Ashley McLeod described her husband's neck snapping during the crash and recalled watching her daughter's body move against her seatbelt. She suffered an open ankle fracture, a broken kneecap, and significant lacerations, requiring multiple surgeries and rehabilitation. Young Dakota had multiple fractured ribs, a broken collarbone, a fractured sternum, a small neck fracture, and numerous bruises.

Brewington, who was hospitalized after the crash, was arrested on warrants for vehicular homicide by reckless conduct, reckless endangerment, and three counts of aggravated assault. The timeline for his arrest and charging remains unclear. He is currently being held on a $135,000 bond.

Ashley McLeod stated that news of Brewington's arrest provided some closure, but she found his mugshot "jarring." The family has faced significant financial, emotional, and physical struggles since the crash, with Ashley McLeod having to sublet their home to afford medical bills.
