Daniel Murphy experienced a severe psychotic episode, believing his loved ones were trying to kill him, after taking fitness supplements unknowingly mixed with steroids. Murphy, who had no prior family history of mental illness, described his transformation from a stable individual to someone exhibiting erratic behavior, including an affair and paranoia that his family was plotting against him.

Murphy purchased the supplements online with the goal of gaining muscle mass. His condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to a state of full-blown psychosis. He recalled believing his loved ones intended to harm and even murder him, a stark contrast to his previous stable demeanor. "We had no history of mental illness in our family, Dan was so calm and stable before this happened," his wife Laura stated.

His mental state began to improve in December 2024 after he stopped taking the supplements from Paradigm Peptides. It was not until February 2025 that Murphy learned the products he had consumed were contaminated with steroids. He expressed frustration that the FDA had been investigating the company without making its findings more public, suggesting a notice on the company's website could have prevented his experience.

Murphy is one of 167 individuals who have come forward seeking a total of $78,317 in compensation for damages. Other victims have reported suffering from blood clots, heart issues, anxiety, and depression, according to the Department of Justice. Murphy now recognizes the risks he took, stating he was playing "Russian roulette" with his health and has ceased taking any supplements. He is speaking out to warn others about the potential dangers and the misconception that all supplements are safe. Murphy's experience highlights the potential risks associated with unregulated fitness supplements, where undisclosed ingredients can lead to severe health consequences.
