Man Slashes Stranger in Face on Bronx Train
A 27-year-old man was slashed in the face by an assailant on a northbound No. 2 train in the Bronx.
A knife-wielding assailant slashed a stranger in the face on a New York City subway train during the Friday morning rush hour, according to police and sources. The victim, 27, was traveling on a northbound No. 2 train when the attack occurred around 9:10 a.m. as the train passed through the 225th Street station in Williamsbridge. The victim was transported to Montefiore Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.
The motive for the assault remains unclear, and law enforcement sources indicated that the attacker and victim did not know each other. The suspect, described as wearing a black hoodie and navy sweatpants, fled the scene following the incident.
This attack comes amid a slight uptick in transit crime. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that through September, there were 15 more reported crimes on the transit system compared to the same period last year, a 0.9 percent increase. She noted that excluding pandemic years, the subway system is experiencing its second-lowest rate of major crime in 15 years, behind 2025. According to Tisch, felony assaults, which are up 11 percent year to date, are largely driving the increase in major transit crimes. She also highlighted that 48 percent of felony assaults in the subway system this year have been committed by individuals with a documented mental health history with the NYPD, and that repeat offenders are a significant factor.
