A man was repeatedly slashed in the body on Monday morning in the Bronx after he held open an emergency subway gate for fellow riders, according to authorities and a news report. The incident occurred inside the No. 4 train station at West 170th Street and Jerome Avenue in the Mount Eden neighborhood.
The 37-year-old victim was attacked with a blade during a confrontation with another individual. He sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to Lincoln Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made in connection with the early morning assault.
This incident follows another violent event in the Bronx subway system just days prior. In that separate case, a stranger allegedly shoved a 65-year-old NYU security guard onto the subway tracks. The victim in that incident, identified as Lydia Zuniga, was pushed from behind while on the northbound No. 5 train platform at East 180th Street and Morris Park Avenue. The alleged assailant later admitted to the act at a psychiatric clinic. Police stated that the 29-year-old suspect had not yet been formally charged as of Monday.
