Man Shot by LAPD After Attacking Officer with Metal Bar

A man was shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers Saturday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles after he charged at them and struck an officer with a metal bar, authorities reported.

The incident occurred around 1:25 p.m. when patrol officers responded to a radio call reporting a robbery near 4th Street and Omar Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man armed with a metal bar and a long tree branch.

Despite repeated commands from officers to drop the weapons, the suspect refused to comply. "Officers deployed less lethal foam rounds to no effect," the LAPD stated in a social media post.

The man then charged at the officers, striking one with the metal bar. In response, officers opened fire, hitting the suspect. Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to local hospitals, where they were listed in stable condition. The metal bar was recovered as evidence.

Authorities described the information as preliminary, and an investigation into the incident is underway. The LAPD stated there is no ongoing threat to the community.
