A man sustained critical injuries after being attacked by three pit bulls in Broome in the early hours of October 21. The victim, in his 40s, was reportedly "ripped up" before a resident intervened and transported him to a local hospital.
Stewart Turner, who witnessed the aftermath, described the man's condition as severe. He used his vehicle to keep the dogs at bay until he could help the injured man. Turner's partner, Miranda Shovellor, said she heard the man calling for help outside their home, expressing that the situation was "traumatizing" and that they "would have probably found a body down the road the next morning" if not for the intervention.
Police responded to the incident around 3 a.m. Officers located three unaccompanied dogs in the vicinity. The man was subsequently flown to Perth for further treatment. Rangers apprehended the dogs around 7 a.m., and the Shire of Broome is currently investigating the attack. According to a Department of Health spokesperson, the man has since been released from the hospital, and the dogs' owners have consented to their euthanasia.
