Jacob Daniel Terrazas, 30, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 months in federal prison for attacking a U.S. Border Patrol agent with a piece of cinder block during an anti-immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) protest in Paramount, California, in June 2025.

During the protest, which lasted over three hours, Terrazas concealed his identity with a mask and used a shield and trees for cover. Court documents state he was among several individuals who threw rocks and cinder blocks at federal agents. Prosecutors said Terrazas repeatedly advanced toward agents to throw remnants of the cinder block, with one piece striking a Border Patrol agent in the shin, causing a bloody gash.

The injured agent initially removed himself from the front lines for treatment but returned to duty. Another agent was struck by rocks but sustained no injuries. Law enforcement deployed less-lethal pepper balls against Terrazas and others throwing projectiles.

An agent in tactical gear eventually tackled Terrazas to the ground, leading to his arrest. Video footage captured the arrest as Terrazas allegedly threw shopping carts at agents while other protestors converged on the scene.

Los Angeles' top federal prosecutor, Bill Essayli, stated that Terrazas's imprisonment sends a message to those who intend to harm federal agents. "We were clear that if you attack federal agents you will be facing time in federal prison," Essayli told The California Post. "Today’s sentence delivers on that promise to hold those accountable who dare to interfere or attack federal agents. Don’t do it."

Terrazas remains in federal custody.
