An illegal immigrant has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for his role in an anti-ICE protest that saw a California Highway Patrol cruiser set ablaze. The individual, who poured lighter fluid onto the burning vehicle, was identified as being in the country illegally.

The incident occurred during a riot in Los Angeles in 2019, which was protesting the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the city. During the protest, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) cruiser was torched.

The sentencing comes after the individual pleaded guilty to one count of using fire to commit a felony and another count of malicious destruction of property by means of fire and an explosive. He was also ordered to pay restitution, though the exact amount was not specified in the initial reports.
