Man Sentenced for Daylight Stabbing with Zombie Knife
A man has been sentenced to over three years in prison for stabbing another individual twice with a foot-long knife in a public space, with the attack captured on CCTV.
Luke Hurdowar, 23, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison on September 2 after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. The incident occurred around noon on June 26 when Hurdowar drove his gray Audi up to the victim, whom he knew, in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Surveillance footage shows Hurdowar approaching the victim, and a fight ensued. Hurdowar then retrieved a foot-long zombie knife from his waistband and stabbed the victim twice. The injured man collapsed and was bleeding heavily, while Hurdowar fled the scene in his car.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities later located Hurdowar in the same vehicle, but he attempted to evade a pursuing officer on foot and ran into a park.
Body-camera footage shows an officer and a police dog named Ultor pursuing Hurdowar into an alleyway. The dog apprehended Hurdowar, dragging him to the ground. He was arrested, charged, and remanded the following day.
Detective Constable Danielle Causer of Derbyshire Police stated that the attack was brazen and occurred during the day in a public area, with children nearby. She emphasized that Hurdowar showed disregard for others and that the streets should not feel unsafe. She added that the consequences of knife crime extend beyond the immediate victims and that the police are committed to addressing the issue of individuals carrying knives.
