A man who ended a three-date relationship via text message over a lack of physical attraction found himself in an awkward position after his date's sharp reply.
He explained that he had decided to end things gently, texting, "I've really enjoyed getting to know you; you've been amazing to spend time with. I think you're a wonderful person, but I don't feel a romantic connection."
Her immediate response was, "Is it because I'm not hot enough?"
The man, who admitted to feeling like a "huge ah*," posted about the encounter online, seeking advice on whether to reveal the truth or ignore the question. He stated that he had tried to allow attraction to grow, but his feelings had not changed, contrasting it with past relationships where he felt an immediate strong connection.
His post garnered over 800 comments, with many advising him against an honest answer regarding physical appearance. "Never answer a trap question about physical attraction with brutal honesty. Stick to your guns, tell her that romantic chemistry just wasn't there and leave it at that," one commenter suggested. Others argued that honesty about attractiveness would be unkind and that a "beautiful lie is better than an ugly truth."
Some suggested he reconsider, questioning if three dates were sufficient to determine a lack of physical attraction. However, the man maintained that his feelings were unlikely to change and that it would be unfair to both parties to continue in a relationship lacking mutual strong feelings.
He emphasized that it is not beneficial for anyone to be in a relationship where attraction or connection is merely "meh."
