Man's Body Found in Home as Bomb Squad Investigates 'Substances'
Merseyside Police are treating the death as unexpected and have cordoned off a property on Wirral.
Police were called to a property in Oxton, Wirral, on Saturday afternoon after paramedics discovered the body of a man in his 20s. The death is currently being treated as unexpected, and Merseyside Police have launched an investigation.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units were dispatched to the scene to assess and remove unspecified substances from the house as a precautionary measure. Police have stated that there is no wider risk to the public. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, but his next of kin has been informed.
Emergency services remained at the property on Sunday, with neighbors reporting a significant police presence since Saturday. Around five police cars and three police vans were visible outside the home on Reedville, a street described by residents as typically quiet. Neighbors reported seeing officers working inside the property late into Saturday night and observed forensics teams.
One resident described the scene as "very worrying," noting the unusually large number of police vehicles. Another neighbor reported seeing a bodybag being removed from the premises on Sunday afternoon. Residents indicated that police presence might continue for at least another two days and mentioned the possibility of a search.
Merseyside Police confirmed that a file will be passed to the coroner. The force has not specified the nature of the substances removed by the EOD.
