Miguel Diego Sandoval, 21, pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder, including special-circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. He also admitted to attempted murder, first-degree residential burglary, and arson of an inhabited structure or property. Three felony animal cruelty counts were also included.

Prosecutors stated that Sandoval, motivated by the end of his relationship, waited until his ex-boyfriend’s family was asleep before entering their Lancaster home on Nov. 16, 2024. He then opened fire, killing Janvi Maquindang, 21, Christine Aca-ac, 25, Edwin Garcia, 24, and Matthew Montebello, 21. Following the shootings, Sandoval set the house on fire and fled.

A 16-year-old victim who was inside the home managed to call 911 from a locked bedroom and was rescued by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responding to the burning residence.

Christine Aca-ac and Edwin Garcia were engaged, according to a GoFundMe campaign organized by Aca-ac’s sister. The fundraiser described Aca-ac as a caring sister and guardian to her younger siblings, who were physically unharmed but lost their home and guardians in the attack. Janvi Maquindang, Aca-ac’s brother, was remembered as a successful young man and a role model. Matthew Montebello, who had recently turned 21, was described by his brother as talented and curious. Edwin Garcia’s mother recalled him as a gentle soul who aspired to be an educator.

Sandoval faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 17.
