Dawood Safi, 23, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 49-year-old Wayne Broadhurst, who was fatally stabbed on October 27, 2025, in west London. Prosecutors accepted the plea on the grounds of diminished responsibility, citing Safi's psychotic state at the time of the incident.
Four mental health experts concluded that Safi experienced a "complete mental collapse" and had "lost contact with reality," according to Jonathan Laidlaw KC. Psychiatrists described him as neurotic, prone to rumination and worry, and possessing a "rigid sense of right and wrong." He was reportedly hearing voices and experiencing delusional beliefs.
Broadhurst, who was a stranger to Safi, died from multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest, and side. The prosecution acknowledged that Broadhurst's family had wished for Safi to be found guilty of murder.
Safi also faces trial for attempting to murder his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, 45, and a 14-year-old boy. These attacks occurred earlier on the same day as Broadhurst's killing, in Midhurst Gardens, Uxbridge.
At an earlier hearing, Safi pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon and admitted to grievous bodily harm with intent and actual bodily harm concerning the attacks on Farrukh and the teenager. He also admitted to a prior charge of grievous bodily harm with intent against Farrukh and actual bodily harm against the boy.
Safi entered the UK in a lorry in 2020 and was granted asylum in 2022, according to the Home Office. The court was informed that he had witnessed the killing of his father and had experienced hardship during his journey to the UK.
