Man Pleads Guilty to Causing Son's Death in Cyprus Hotel Fall

A man has admitted causing the death of his two-year-old son, who fell from a hotel window in Cyprus. The Paphos district court was told in July that the boy fell through an open window while his father was holding him and swinging him from side to side.
The father, who was allowed to return to the UK for his child's funeral, pleaded guilty to avoid a lengthy trial and spare his family the trauma of reliving the child's death in court. His lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, stated that a long trial would make the man "again a victim of this tragedy."
Alexandrou indicated that he would ask the court to lift travel restrictions so his client could return to the UK to be with his wife and daughter until the next hearing.
The maximum sentence for the charge is four years in prison. Alexandrou suggested that the court consider previous cases where defendants received fines or suspended sentences. "The most important thing for him is to return to his family," he said.
