Man Launches Racist Tirade in Convenience Store, Accused of Theft

A man was recorded launching a racist tirade against a Black woman and store employees in a Coventry convenience store, before leaving the premises with unpaid merchandise. The incident occurred on October 21 at approximately 1:25 p.m. at a One Stop store in Henley Green.

Video footage shows the man, dressed in tracksuit bottoms and a red jumper with a gilet, arguing with staff and other customers. He directed racial slurs at a woman recording the encounter, telling her to "get back on your boat" and questioning her origin. He also referred to her as a "black c***."

The confrontation reportedly began when the man became impatient while waiting to be served, asserting that staff were talking instead of assisting him. He was heard swearing at a female employee, who asked him not to use such language. Other customers intervened as the man's aggression escalated.

The woman who filmed the incident, identified as 47-year-old Nicola Salmon, stated that she felt "broken" by the abuse. She explained that she had been comforting a female employee whose sister had recently died when the man approached them demanding service. Ms. Salmon began recording when the man became aggressive and began shouting racial slurs.

"I have never had anybody... I have always seen people so warming and kind. I never knew this type of hatred until it happened to me," Ms. Salmon said, expressing her shock and distress.

After continuing his verbal assault, the man was seen storming out of the store, carrying several items and leaving without payment. He was also seen with a bicycle as he exited.

West Midlands Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident. A spokesperson stated, "We are investigating after a woman reported being racially abused in Coventry. On October 21, a man was challenged while attempting to steal from One Stop on Broad Park Road when he allegedly racially abused a woman in her 40s." Enquiries are ongoing, and the public is asked to call 101, quoting log 2372 of October 21, with any information.
