Man Kills Sister in Murder-Suicide at New Jersey Home
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the incident where a man fatally shot his sister before taking his own life.
A man fatally shot his sister on the front steps of a Pennsauken, New Jersey home on Wednesday morning before turning the gun on himself, according to authorities.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at a Bethel Avenue residence around 9 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Janet Camacho on the home's stoop. She was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Authorities established a perimeter around the property and evacuated nearby residents. Approximately 90 minutes after the initial call, law enforcement used a robotic dog to locate Daniel Lopez, 60, deceased inside the home. He had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office has classified the incident as a murder-suicide. The motive behind the violence remains under investigation.
Neighbors described Lopez as a friendly acquaintance who was close to their family. One neighbor told WPVI that Lopez was a frequent guest at family gatherings and was always kind, even baking items for neighbors. The neighbor expressed shock and disbelief at the events.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the shooting and Lopez pacing outside the home after the incident. The footage was deemed too graphic for broadcast.
