Man Killed in Supermarket Crash Identified; Police Seek Witnesses

James Singh Jagpal, a 39-year-old father of two, has been identified as the victim killed when a car crashed into a Lidl supermarket in Wolverhampton on Friday, October 23. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the Finchfield Hill area.

West Midlands Police, ambulance, and fire services responded to the scene, but Mr. Jagpal was pronounced dead at the location. The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 70s, was transported to the hospital for treatment. She has since been released and is expected to be interviewed by police in due course.

Mr. Jagpal's family described him as a devoted partner of over 20 years and a loving father to two daughters. They remembered him for his "kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour," stating that he was the "absolute centre of our world." The family has requested privacy and is receiving support from specialist officers. They expressed gratitude to the staff, customers, and emergency responders who assisted Mr. Jagpal.

Two other women were hospitalized with injuries but have been discharged. Four additional individuals received treatment from paramedics at the scene and were subsequently released.

Social media footage of the aftermath showed extensive damage to the supermarket's storefront, with the car inside the building. Police are continuing their investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who was driving in the Finchfield Hill area of Wolverhampton between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the day of the incident to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in any dashcam footage that may have captured the blue Renault ZOE car involved in the crash before the collision occurred.
