A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the manslaughter of a 25-year-old woman who fell to her death from a balcony while attempting to escape his threats.
Jaiden Hassan-Agard was found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the death of Tia Langdon, who died on August 28, 2025, after falling from a block of flats in Cuckmere Lane, Southampton. He was also convicted of breaking Ms. Langdon's nose, threatening to kill her, false imprisonment, and making threats with an offensive weapon.
Winchester Crown Court heard that Hassan-Agard had accused Ms. Langdon and another woman of stealing drugs from him before threatening them with a machete. The judge, Mrs. Justice Tipples, stated that Hassan-Agard had terrorized Ms. Langdon to the extent that she felt her only option was to escape over the balcony. The judge added that Hassan-Agard appeared to derive pleasure from the fear he instilled.
Moses Langdon, Tia's father, described losing a part of himself, while her mother expressed the unimaginable pain of losing her daughter, stating, "Part of me died with her." The family issued a statement expressing gratitude that the person responsible for Tia's death had been held accountable, adding that while no outcome could deliver true justice, her memory would remain with them.
Prosecutors proved that Hassan-Agard's conduct was a significant cause of the events leading to Ms. Langdon's death. He also allegedly refused to seek emergency help and continued to threaten the other victim afterward. The sentence includes an extended license period of three years upon his release from prison, as the judge deemed him a significant risk of serious harm to the public.
Hassan-Agard has a history of offenses, including convictions for the rape of a 12-year-old girl, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and grievous bodily harm when he was 15. He was also assessed to have been a victim of modern slavery and involved in drugs from the age of 11. He was sentenced the day after his birthday and left school without qualifications.
